1. William Edward ANTRUM, known as "Billy", born Mar 1898 in Loose (Kent), census 1901 at Loose Hill, Loose (Kent), Driver 163642 - Royal Field Artillery (TF821389), died 1921 in Loose (Kent) - Aged 22, buried 12 Jan 1921 at All Saints, Loose (Kent). The family “story” is that Billy was serving in France towards the end of the war, and received a kick to the head from a stampeding mule. This injury is thought to be a major contributing factor in his early demise. I can find no reference to Billy having received an Army Pension, and he is not listed by CWGC or by SDGW. The secondary service number shown above indicates that he was transferred at some stage to a non combatant unit, presumably because of his injury. Obviously the people of Loose felt that his death was attributable to his war service in some way as his name was submitted, and accepted, for inclusion on the war memorial. Further research is needed.
