Saltwood War Memorial

The memorial in Saltwood stands on the village green. It is a small stone celtic cross on a stepped base. [UKNIWM Ref: 16096]

The original, dedicated in 1920, did not bear the names of the fallen, but they are listed on a plaque inside the church. [Also see below].

See "Roll of Honour" and [UKNIWM Ref: 41163]

Those men of Saltwood who are buried in the churchyard of St Peter & St Paul’s church, or are otherwise commemorated on gravestones there are marked below with a cross. (+)

The two men whose names below are marked with an asterisk are buried in the churchyard at Saltwood, but for some reason are not listed on the memorial plaque inside the church.

The following man is buried in the Churchyard at Saltwood but his name has not been included on the memorial because his ties with the village were not considered strong enough for him to be regarded as a Saltwood man. [Personally I find this decision strange. He is buried in the village churchyard and his father lived in the village. His claim appears better than some of the others who were included].
